5 Peaks Cypress Mountain Enduro July 26, 2008

This race would be my first one using an ankle brace thanks to my first ever sports injury suffered at the previous trail race. After the Golden Ears event, I booked in with a physiotherapist who examined my injured paw and pronounced it a mild grade 2 sprain. That meant that with some strengthening exercises and with the use of a brace, I could continue participating in trail races in 2008. The brace I selected looks like a mini-corset, which adds a whole new dimension to the term "race gear".

5 Peaks Golden Ears Enduro - For Real! June 28, 2008

Following quite closely on the heels of the Scotiabank Half was the second event of the 5 Peaks racing series for 2008. Originally scheduled for a different location, this event was instead held at Golden Ears, as the original location still had far to much snow (yes snow in June) for the event to be safe.

Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon (SVHM)– June 22, 2008

So what does one do after running several road and trail running events in the 8 to 12 km range? Try a half marathon road race, of course!

5 Peaks Golden Ears Enduro, er, Sport Course - May 10, 2008

After achieving my goal in the Sun Run, I turned to training for my first trail run of the year. I was so impressed with the organization and execution of the 5 peaks run I participated in last year that I signed up for all 5 races in 2008! Well, that and the offer of a ton of useful stuff as an incentive to book all races at once.

Sun Run 2008 April 15 2008

A year since I ran in my first race ever, I thought I would give the Sun Run a go again. I signed up early and began practicing some longer distances as spring came.

Harry's Spring Runoff Vancouver - March 9, 2008

To start my "running season" early and lightly, I signed up for an 8K run in Stanley Park. The run is sponsored by Harry Rosen in support of prostate cancer research.

The Seawall Re-opens!

A few months off from race participation can only mean one thing - training runs galore. What made this easier was the re-opening of the Stanley Park Seawall late in the year after repairs were completed due to storm damage the previous winter. So Christmas 2007 was all about running around the park, literally.

Fall Classic 10K - November 18, 2007

After two trail races and equipped with a great set of orthotics and new road running shoes -- New Balance 1061s -- it was time to try another road race. The previous year, pace bunny had run the New Balance Fall Classic held at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in November. She recommended it as a great race to try. So I signed up and did the hoofing myself.

Hallow's Eve 10K- October 28, 2007

So what better thing to do after your first trail run than immediately sign up for another? Taking a recommendation from another trail running colleague, I signed up for the Hallow's Eve 10K race in North Vancouver, BC.

Sun Run 2007

April 15, 2007. The first time I would ever run in a race.

How Did This Running Thing Start?

Clara has been at me for several months to document my race experiences. On the anniversary of my first running race ever, I am doing so now.
